Brittany Murphy DeadBrittany Murphy, the quirky, perky actress with amazingly deep brown eyes and a sparkling smile stretching from ear to ear died on December 20, 2009. The 32 year old ambitious actress was declared dead at 10:04 am after she was admitted to Cedar-Sanai Medical Center.

The actress made her way up the Hollywood list by working in movies such as “Clueless” where she played the role of an urban transplant in Beverly Hills High School and “Uptown Girl” where the story of a girl from riches to rags was put forward on the big screen. She also played sensitive roles such as in the movie “Don’t Say A Word” where she played the role of a girl suffering from severe mental illness. Though because of her unrestrained, asymmetrical smile made her a frequent choice for roles with an edge. She also starred opposite rapper Eminem in the “8 Miles” for which Peter Travers of Rolling Stone said Ms. Murphy played the character of Alex “with hot desperation and calloused vulnerability. She’s dynamite.”

Brittany had a turbulent childhood as her parents got divorced when she was barely 2 years old. She lived with her mother Sharon Kathleen Murphy in Edison, New Jersey and attended Edison High School. Bertolotti was sufficiently estranged from the family that he was not named as the father on the first death certificate. The family later moved to Los Angeles so that Brittany could pursue her acting career. Murphy said her mother never tried to stifle her creativity, and she considered her mother a crucial factor in her later success: “When I asked my mom to move to California, she sold everything and moved out here for me. … She always believed in me.”

Murphy’s career also includes her work as a singer. She commented: “My singing voice isn’t like my speaking voice…I’ve just always kept it a secret and never taken credit because I wanted to learn how to work behind the microphone in a recording studio, and some of the singers don’t even know it was me recording on their albums.”

On 20th December, 2009 at 8:00am a 911 call was made to the Los Angeles Fire Department allegedly by Murphy’s husband, Simon Monjack. She apparently collapsed in the bathroom and was rescued by the fire department and later taken to the Cedae-Sanai Medical Center where she was pronounced dead already. The cause of the death “appeared to be natural” though people raised a lot of furious question over the statement. An autopsy was performed on December 21, 2009. Her death certificate listed the cause of death as “deferred”. On February 4, 2010, the Los Angeles County coroner stated that the primary cause of Murphy’s death was pneumonia, with secondary factors of iron-deficiency anaemia and multiple drug intoxication. On February 25, 2010, the coroner released a report stating that Murphy had been taking a range of over-the-counter and prescription medications, with the most likely reason being to treat a cold or respiratory infection.

Ashton Kutcher, who dated Murphy during the movie “Just Married“, tweeted “2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine.” My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon,” he added. Murphy’s father, Angelo Bertolotti, said: “She was just an absolute doll since she was born. Her personality was always outward. Everybody loved her – people that made movies with her, people on a cruise – they all loved her.”

The actress was indeed a beauty and a rush of happiness to the world. The glow on her face and the aura of her soul illuminated the world of the people around her. We will always remember you “our little piece of sunshine”. Always. R.I.P.
