Small Wonder: It Will Always Remain in Our Hearts

Browsing through my television channel I came across a Hindi TV show ‘Karishma ka karishma’. Seeing its uncanny resemblance to Small Wonder, a hit television sitcom from the eighties I was reminded of a part of my youth that brought nothing but sweet recollections in my mind. I surfed all of YouTube until I had seen almost every episode the site could offer me. It was a trip down the memory lane. Although the humor was still the same and I remembered every dialogue and it brought back the child in me who laughed on all the jokes with the same intensity as I did when I was 5.

A show with a family owning a girl robot named Vicky (voice input child identicant), Small Wonder had all the ingredients for a hit television show. It was an idea made to be a hit. It was a sitcom for the whole family to enjoy. It became one of the few moments there would not be a fight in the house for the remote control.

The robotic charm of Tiffany Brissete always kept the show alive. Her literal interpretation for every command and the mess that it created was the vein of the entire series. Adding to the main cast we had Ted Lawson’s nosey neighbors who were annoying yet lovable. It is actually with Harriet that I understood the meaning of a crush. The little girl actor was not given as much credit as she deserved. Her intruding behavior and determination to please Jamie never let the show fade in the background. The four wonderful seasons gave my growing years an experience that I will never forget. I am sure many of the fans who spent their childhood in front of the TV would agree. It left an idea in my mind. An idea on which I ponder till date “how amazing would it be to own a robot like Vicky.”
