Will You Go Out With Me?

Edited By: on September 19, 2011

Will You Go Out With MeDo you have a crush? Are you in a relationship? These are the questions that most youngsters ask their friends. As the western culture becomes more prominent in India, relationships are becoming a casual thing.

Although majority of people still take their relationship seriously, the percentage of people who are in it just for fun or time pass or for enjoying sexual intimacy is increasing. The era of ‘DEVDAS’ is partially over. In this fast paced life getting over a two-three year old relationship hardly takes a year and then the cycle continues. Your facebook relationship status again reads single.

Youngsters want to experiment. It goes-you like someone, you start dating, if he/she suits you then you carry on otherwise you break-up. Simple.

Notions like pre- marital sex and live in relationships, which were taboo not long back, are becoming noticeable in our society. Serials like ‘Friends’ or ‘How I Met Your Mother’ which are some of the all -time favorites of today’s youth promote such lifestyle. Even movies like ‘Salaam Namaste’ support live-in relationships. There is a scene in ‘Anjaana Anjaani’ where  Priyanka Chopra gets  shocked to find that Aakash (Ranbir Kapoor) is still a virgin and finds his dream of finding a special girl hilarious.

Live-in relationships are becoming popular very quickly. According to today’s youth living together before marriage helps them to decide whether they are compatible. Although a high percentage of live-in relationships in India end up in marriage, some couples might break –up with each other. However it is easier said than done. Getting over that intimate a relationship can have a really great toll on you. Mental disturbances become common in such situations.

It is a stressful world out there.  It gets easier with a partner to vent out the frustration. The satisfaction of having someone with whom you can share everything is very gratifying. However for people who are docile and too ‘innocent’ the pressure of physical intimacy can be devastating. Questions like-“Is 20 too old an age to be a virgin?” are being asked more frequently amongst friends. Low self-esteem due to rejection is common too.

Even parents (in metropolitan cities) are coming to terms with their child being in a relationship. After all you have to commit yourself to know who is perfect for you. The motto is-“You get only one life, enjoy it to the fullest.”

With an open mind and a positive self-image you can really enjoy this new trend. So just gulp down your qualms and ask out that special one. Enjoy the present. If it doesn’t work out in the future, then just give him/her a fastrack watch and ‘MOVE ON’!!!!

The culture of chilled relationships is getting popular indeed, but its overrated and these days its more of a TREND and necessity to have a partner rather than emotional needs !!
So I dont totally approve that 1 should go with this trend. Only if you are really sure you want to be in a relationship , you should go ahead- because the chances of heartbreaks and depression are high in such cases !!
That’s what is the main reason for increasing suicide rate among youth.

Well analyzed ——Changes in the society are inevitable ……..But the big question is …….Are they for the better or for worse ???

that depends on the kind of personality you have….although too much of a casual attitude towards relationship is, from my point of view, not for the better.
